Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Expanding higher education opportunities for youth across Qatar, Education Above All Foundation (EAA)’s Al Fakhoora programme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, awarded a total of 59 students with a Dynamic Futures Qatar Scholarship as part of the Qatar Scholarship Programme, in a virtual ceremony on Thursday.

The DFQ scholarship aims to provide youth aged 17 to 25, who have spent most of their formative years in Qatar, with access to higher education. They can apply to distinguished universities in the country, including Qatar University (QU), Stenden University of Applied Sciences–Qatar, College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q), University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ), and partner universities of Qatar Foundation (QF).

EAA proudly celebrated students from both the second and third cohort in Thursday’s virtual ceremony, following an earlier postponement due to COVID-19. The event was attended by Sheikh Dr Khalid Al Thani, Director of the General Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs; Fahad Al-Sulaiti, CEO of EAA; Sheikh Salman Bin Hassan Al-Thani, Chief Financial Officer at QF; and Dr Salem Al Naemi, President of CNA-Q.

Sheikh Dr Khalid Al Thani, Director of the General Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, celebrated the new cohort of DFQ scholars, and highlighted: “We are looking forward to seeing the students’ impact on the future, seeing them raise the status of Islam by equipping themselves with useful knowledge and sharing it, so that ceaseless charity continues and knowledge can go on for generations to come.”

Dr Salem Al Naemi, President of CNA-Q, said: “We have great respect for Qatar Foundation and the Education Above All Foundation, and for all partners who are working tirelessly to ensure education is available to all with no exception. Education is key to creating a developed and innovative society that will achieve sustainable growth. College of the North Atlantic – Qatar is proud to be part of this initiative that provides education to those who lack the means to realise their wish.”

As part of the partnership agreement with QF for the Dynamic Futures Qatar Scholarship, QF is co-funding four of the awarded scholarships. Sheikh Salman Bin Hassan Al-Thani, Chief Financial Officer at QF, commented: “It is Qatar Foundation’s dedication to inclusivity in education, and to removing obstacles that may prevent young people from fulfilling their goals and their potential, that has led us to develop a portfolio of scholarships and financial aid opportunities that have opened the path to a quality, meaningful learning experience within the universities based at Education City for so many talented, driven students from around the world. We know that the QF students who have just received the DFQ scholarship will make us proud as they go on to make a difference.”

Commenting on DFQ’s positive impact on youth in Qatar, Talal Al Hothal, Director of EAA’s Al Fakhoora programme, said: “EAA supports millions of children and young people across the world to ensure they have access to safe, quality education. Today’s ceremony underlines this commitment and solidifies the promise our DFQ scholarship makes to the next generation of leaders and changemakers in Qatar. We are determined to provide life-changing opportunities to deserving youth, so that they can pursue successful and rewarding careers to support and strengthen their communities.”

DFQ is a needs-based scholarship offered by EAA through its Al Fakhoora programme to deserving expatriate youth in Qatar. To learn more about the eligibility criteria and how to apply, visit: https://educationaboveall.org/#!/event/q-and-a-session-for-dfq
