Education Above All Foundation Concerned About School Blast in Kabul, Reiterates Importance of Safety for School Children
The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation is deeply concerned by the explosion at a school in Shahrak-e-Mahdia, Kabul, which reportedly injured 42 children between the ages of 9 and 14.
EAA Foundation extends its heartfelt thoughts to the children, their families, teachers and the wider school community affected by the incident, and wishes the injured children a full and speedy recovery.
Schools must be safe and protected spaces where children can learn, grow and thrive without fear. Protecting students, teachers and education personnel is fundamental to upholding the right to education and ensuring that learning can continue uninterrupted, even in challenging circumstances.
Maleiha Malik, Executive Director of EAA Foundation’s Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) programme, said:
“We are deeply saddened by the explosion in Kabul and the reported injuries to children. Schools should be safe spaces where children can learn and feel protected. In Afghanistan, a country that has endured decades of conflict and insecurity, we urge all actors to take every possible measure to protect children, teachers and education personnel, and to ensure that children are able to continue their education in safe and supportive learning environments.”
EAA Foundation reiterates the urgent need to protect education and safeguard educational spaces, particularly in contexts affected by conflict. Every child should be able to attend school safely and pursue their education without fear for their wellbeing.
This incident comes as the international community prepares to observe the International Day to Protect Education from Attack on 9 September, which serves as a global reminder of the importance of protecting education from violence and ensuring that children and young people can learn in safety and dignity.
