Employment and Self-Employment Through Agriculture and Livelihoods Support for Vulnerable Populations
Project Status
Silatech and the FAO signed an agreement to support the employment of youth in Sudan and safeguard livelihoods for conflict-affected populations, with the support of Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).
The Project aims to:
- Place young people into employment and self-employment opportunities while supporting food security and productivity for vulnerable, war-affected households in the Gezirah Scheme. This will be achieved by improving agricultural production and increasing food availability for the catchment population in the central region of Sudan.
- Through this initiative, 30,955 youth (including IDPs) will gain employment and self-employment in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
- This will be facilitated through access to diverse seeds and livestock inputs, improved agricultural practices through Farmers' Field Schools (FFS), and the rehabilitation of irrigation systems.
- The project's primary components focus on enhancing employment opportunities for farmers and strengthening their capacity in agricultural production, productivity, and market linkages.
Sliatech in partnership with FAO:
- 20,800 young people will become self-employed through receiving agricultural inputs to pursue agrarian activities on their own land.
- 10,155 young people will gain medium-term employment through agriculture and livestock inputs, Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and contributions to the rehabilitation of irrigation systems.
- Strengthen food security and livelihoods of IDPs and crisis-affected communities by contributing to saving and preserving lives whilst enhancing peace and social cohesion.
- Strengthen the resilience of displaced and host communities affected by conflict. This will, in turn, contribute to enhanced peace, stability, and economic recovery in conflict-affected communities.
- Support community development and self-reliance through strengthening farmers and agriculture production, and productivity through community Farmers' Field Schools, infrastructure rehabilitation and capacity building.
