Education Above All Foundation Calls for the Protection of Education Amid Political Instability in Madagascar
Education Above All Foundation (EAA), a global foundation for education and development, is calling for the urgent protection of education amid escalating instability in Madagascar, where ongoing political unrest is severely disrupting access to learning and threatening the well-being of children and youth.
The recent surge in political conflict has forced the closure of most schools in major cities, deepening the crisis for learners already facing systemic barriers to education.
“Education must never be a casualty of crisis. We call on all stakeholders to uphold the right to education, prioritise the continuity of learning, and ensure that schools remain safe spaces for learning,” said Maleiha Malik, Executive Director of the Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) Programme at Education Above All Foundation.
Madagascar’s education system continues to struggle with widespread challenges, including infrastructure destroyed by cyclones, a shortage of trained teachers, low school completion rates, poor learning outcomes, and a high repetition rate. The current instability amplifies these vulnerabilities and places the future of thousands of children at risk.
