Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

EAA Foundation Welcomes Ceasefire in Gaza

Calendar icon
Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, a global foundation for development and education, welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a crucial step toward alleviating the devastating humanitarian crisis that has gripped the region for more than 15 months.

The conflict has inflicted unimaginable suffering on children and youth in the Gaza Strip, who have borne the brunt of its catastrophic impact.

Reports indicate that at least 14,500 children have died, thousands more have been injured, and an estimated 17,000 have been left unaccompanied or separated from their parents. Nearly 1,000,000 people have been displaced, and 95 percent of Gaza’s school buildings have been damaged or destroyed, depriving countless children of their fundamental right to education and a sense of normalcy.

The ceasefire must afford humanitarian actors the opportunity to safely begin  the massive response desperately needed in the Gaza Strip. This includes unimpeded access to provide essential food and nutrition, health care and psychosocial support, clean water and sanitation, and most critically, education and learning support for all children and youth.

EAA Foundation urges all parties to fully adhere to the ceasefire and actively support immediate and sustained humanitarian efforts to rebuild lives and communities. Education, in particular, must remain a central focus of these efforts to ensure that the children and youth of the Gaza Strip can once again access safe learning spaces and the hope of a brighter future.

Since 2009, Education Above All Foundation has been steadfast in its commitment to supporting children and youth across Palestine, particularly the Gaza Strip, providing education services and partnering to rebuild schools, offer psychosocial support and address the urgent needs of those most affected.

Globally, EAA Foundation has reached over 22 million children and youth, including more than 7 million out-of-school children affected by conflict.

Every year on the observance of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack on 9 September, EAA Foundation working with its partners, civil society and youth calls attention to the importance of protection of education in conflict and collective global action to protect students, teachers, schools and universities.
