EAA Foundation Denounces Attacks On Schools In Pakistan
The Education Above All Foundation, a global foundation for education and development, deplores the recent militant attacks on a government girls’ primary school in Mir Ali, Waziristan, Pakistan. The attacks led to extensive damage to the school’s infrastructure, with explosives detonating overnight on school premises.
The attacks come only days after an explosion left more than 600 students without access to education as a result of another blast targeting a school in the same region in North Waziristan.
Speaking about the attacks, Maleiha Malik, Executive Director of the Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict Programme at EAA Foundation, said: “Attacks on school infrastructures represent a grave education related violation of international law and the Safe Schools Declaration, which grants all students the right to a peaceful and equitable education no matter where they are. The destruction of learning spaces not only harms and traumatises communities, but it also undermines the long-term prospects for peace and development. Schools must always remain safe learning environments for children to learn and play, as well as to protect the growth and healthy development of children and youth.”
Aside from militant attacks, Pakistan is facing a deep education crisis marked by widespread school closures, insecurity, poverty, and systemic underinvestment, leaving more than 20 million children out of school. Conflict and militant violence in regions such as the northwest, combined with climate disasters, child labor, and gender inequality, have disproportionately affected girls and marginalised communities.
Education Above All Foundation remains committed to protecting the right to education by supporting more than 18.5 million children and youth worldwide.
