Partners for Learning: Improving Quality, Equity and Access to Primary Education for OOS Girls and Boys in Haiti

Calendar icon
EAC and Care are working in Haiti to improve quality, equity and access to primary education for 50,000 out of school children.

The Quality Basic Education for Out of School Children (OOSC) project contributes to increased access to equitable, quality primary education for girls and boys in Haiti by specifically increasing enrolment and completing of a primary cycle of education among OOSC. The project will reach at least 50,000 OOSC and targets the following three sub-groups: girls and boys in domestic servitude situations in rural/semi-rural areas, girls and boys in rural farm situations without economic means to attend school, and girls and boys in street/semi-street situations.

Primary school options are being created, expanded, and/or strengthened for OOSC and as a result, OOSC are being identified, enroled, and retained. Additionally, the project benefits parents of OOSC and an estimated 227,233 other children, teachers, and school directors in schools supported indirectly and directly by the proposed initiatives. The project leverages existing resources to support education and develop innovative financing mechanisms to foster program sustainability, and is establishing a social movement in Haiti to combat the OOSC phenomenon.

CARE’s plan is imbedded within the Ministry of Education and Vocation Training long-term plan, with special emphasis on collaboration with other donors, NGOs, and community-based organizations to amplify and sustain the impact of the project.
