This strategic initiative is aimed at unleashing the potential of youth in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan to generate green impact and contribute to their local economies, in partnership with ROTA, Silatech and Generation Unlimited (UNICEF). By engaging youth in greening their communities, job placement, and entrepreneurship, we aim to empower young individuals to actively participate in sustainable development efforts while addressing climate action, unemployment challenges and fostering economic growth through entrepreneurship.

The planetary crisis of climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss is upon us. Addressing the challenge will require all citizens of the globe – especially young people – to adapt to the new realities and be part of the solution. At the same time, the world – and the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region in particular – is experiencing a demographic bulge.  This initiative is designed to create avenues for youth engagement, enabling young people to make a positive environmental impact and contribute to the economic development of their respective countries. By harnessing the energy, ideas, and innovation of young people, we believe that sustainable development goals can be achieved more effectively and efficiently. By bringing these partners mentioned above together with UNICEF Generation Unlimited, we can equip young people with knowledge, skills and opportunities to take measurable green action in their communities and connect young people in these countries to 21st century skills, jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Over 3 years, ROTA, Silatech, and UNICEF Generation Unlimited will roll out programmes in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon that take young people on a journey from volunteering and Education on Climate Action (ECA) to greening communities and refugee camps to skilling young people for 21st century employment and either placing these young people in jobs and/or supporting them to develop enterprises and be self-employed in various sectors that include: Information Technology and Communications, Healthcare, Engineering, Infrastructure and Construction, Transportation and Logistics, Carpentry and Furniture Development, Financial Services, Sports and Community Engagement, Agriculture, Textiles and Garment.

After 3 years, the project will connect:

  • Silatech: 195,670 youth beneficiaries in Egypt to employment/entrepreneurship, and,
  • ROTA: 370,000 youth beneficiaries in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon to take 713,400 Climate Actions that contribute to mitigation and adaptation of climate induced challenges
  • In Egypt, 22,500 of ROTA’s youth beneficiaries will continue towards job placement and self-employment in the green economy in partnership with Silatech.

Unleashing the potential of youth in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan to generate green impact and contribute to the local economies through youth-led climate action, job placement, and entrepreneurship is a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development goals. By providing opportunities for engagement, employment, and entrepreneurship, we can empower young individuals to become agents of positive change, leading to a greener and stronger future.
