About EAA

Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

In partnership with EAC, Gonoshahajjo Sangstha (GSS) will provide quality basic education to 104,700 out of school Bangladeshi children over four years through its Quality Education Program. The GSS Quality Education Program is a proven model in active teaching and learning aimed at holistic development of the child.

Gonoshahajjo Sangstha (GSS) is a non-governmental development agency that promotes high-quality, child-centered, and active teaching and learning, especially for poor children. GSS incorporates curriculum and material development, teacher education and training, learner assessment, supervision, monitoring of individual learner performance, and research. It provides an institutional base that helps build the capacity of other providers and influences the quality of teaching and learning in the mainstream schools.

GSS which means ‘organization for extending support to people’ was set up in rural and urban areas of Bangladesh. It started its activities by organizing and mobilizing agricultural laborers in 14 villages of Khulna district in southwestern Bangladesh. Over time, it grew into a national-level NGO that conceived and implemented development interventions in more than 47 districts across Bangladesh.

GSS provides a comprehensive primary education system consisting of 700 primary schools practicing child centered active teaching and learning. Through its partnership with EAC, the GSS Education for Out of School Children (OOSC) in the Bangladesh project will re-launch 575 unused schools to provide primary education to a total of 104,700 out of school children.  It will also strengthen and develop the overall communications, documentation and management capacity of the GSS Quality Education Program.
