About EAA

Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Fundación Pies Descalzos (FPD) is an organisation founded by the artist Shakira in 1997, focussing on education in Colombia for more than 15 years and aiming to help poor and impoverished children.

Seeking to overcome challenges to educational infrastructure and improve teaching and innovation in Colombia and Latin America, Fundación Pies Descalzos "works to ensure that every Colombian child can exercise their right to a quality education.” FPD envisions getting the next generation of Colombians to find, through education, a vehicle to dream, build and fulfil their life plan.

Specifically, FPD believes that education is synonymous with evolution and the new era requires reinvention and the contuation of support for school infrastructure, understanding approaches that have proven effective in the region and the world, and training teachers and school leaders to serve as essential components of the educational ecosystem in the country.
