Education Above All gravely concerned about reports of school bombing in Eastern Ukraine

Calendar icon

Education Above All has received multiple reports about an attack on a school in the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region in Eastern Ukraine. If confirmed, this would be a grave violation of international law.

The school is believed to have been serving as a shelter for an estimated 90 local residents and there are fears about the fate of over 60 civilians who are believed to be currently buried in the rubble.

Targeting educational facilities and vulnerable populations seeking refuge inside schools in times of conflict is deplorable. If intentional, then this attack is a war crime under international humanitarian law.

EAA calls on all parties to armed conflict to safeguard schools from attack. The international community must act immediately to ensure that the perpetrators of this attack are held responsible.
