Bader's Voice: A Glimpse into the Lives of Gaza’s Youth Amidst War

Calendar icon

In the heart of Gaza, where the sounds of war relentlessly echo, lives Bader AlZaharna—a young life marked by the shadows of war. His story is a living testament to the daily realities and the profound human cost borne by children and youths trapped amidst the ceaseless hostilities.

“In one house, we all evacuated, and everyone is here,” says Bader, narrating the lived experiences and the unyielding chaos that has enveloped their lives. Each word echoes with vulnerability, shedding light on the immense psychological strains they endure. “Sometimes, I cannot cry. I really want to cry, but sometimes I cannot,” shares Bader, a poignant reflection of suppressed sorrows and unshed tears.

The nights are particularly unforgiving. “Night is the worst time for all of us here,” Bader reveals, his words carrying the weight of uncertainty, fear, and an omnipresent threat of loss. “It’s a mixture of fear, terror, and so much anxiety and frustration because we do not know. We might be the next.”

Bader’s voice unveils the stark landscapes of destruction, and the continuous toll of lives lost—each one a devastating reminder of dreams unfulfilled and potentials unreached. “Seeing entire neighbourhoods flattened to the ground, the death toll increasing day by day, second by second,” he describes, encapsulating the grim realities they witness daily.

Amidst the turmoil, Bader reflects on lost years and stifled opportunities, a young life spent more in a struggle for survival than in the pursuit of dreams. “Years and years have been wasted, just living in the middle of unemployment, travel restrictions, wars, killing, and depression,” he says, embodying the collective pain and thwarted aspirations of Gaza's youth.

His story, heavy with unanswered questions and filled with uncertain tomorrows, echoes with a universal plea for peace, normalcy, and a future free from the shadows of war. “Will we ever be back to life after all of this? I'm not sure,” Bader wonders aloud, leaving us with a resounding echo of the lost dreams and enduring spirit of Gaza's youth.
