ROTA Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day on 7th February
- Qatar’s largest community gathering set to take place at Museum of Islamic Art Park
- A riveting line-up of activities and active lifestyle sports featured throughout the day
Doha, Qatar 29 January 2014: Bringing a spectacular line up of activities and Arab World celebrities, the annual Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) hosts its annual Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day at the Museum of Islamic Art Park on Friday 7th February, under the auspices of ROTA Chairperson, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Now in its seventh year, Wheels ‘n’ Heels has grown to become Qatar’s largest community event in less than a decade and brings hours of fun for people of all ages and communities and encourages participation in a variety of healthy lifestyle activities, while supporting ROTA’s education and humanitarian missions.
Participants will be particularly encouraged to have the opportunity to jump on a skateboard or lace up a pair of trainers to complete The Circuit as adults, children and celebrities jog, walk, cycle or wheelchair three (3) kilometers along the Doha Corniche. The social activity will help ROTA raise fund to provide quality education to 48 million disadvantaged children in the world’s largest continent, Asia.
The action will be kicked off at 2pm and among the entertainment on the Wheels ‘n’ Heels will be performance by Shama Hamdan (UAE), while young ones will enjoy meeting popular Baraem Children’s Channel presenters Ahmed Al Mulla and Jihan Arsanious, masters of the ceremony of the event.
Additional star-studded appearances will include local and international celebrities and sports icons, Mahmoud and Abdullah Bo Shri (Kuwait), rally racer Nada Zeidan (Qatar), and teenage swimming sensation Nada Mohamed Arakji (Qatar).
A special Kids Zone is guaranteed to keep the kids occupied for hours with non-stop live entertainment, bouncy castles, face painting, a range of fun games, interactive sports, and performances by well-known singers and dancers. The Childhood Cultural Centre, founded under the initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser to encourage, support and develop social growth in Qatar, will be providing books and arts and crafts materials to Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2014.
‘Stay Active and Healthy’ will be the message in the Active & Health Zone as kids and adults learn more about first aid, how to prevent accidents, and even get a free health check-up. Those with energy to spare will have the chance to join Aspire and Qatar Cycling Federation who will bring hours of fitness activities and wicked sports fun for the whole family.
Action on Diabetes village for the second consecutive year will be hosted at Wheels’n’Heels, the village aims to raise awareness about the prevention and management of diabetes and the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices . The "Action on Diabetes" village has already proved very successful – attracting more than 5000 people during WnH 2013, through a successful public-private partnership between the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Diabetes Association, Maersk Oil Qatar and world leader in diabetes care Novo Nordisk.
Beyond Qatar Cycling Federation, a large number of ROTA partners such as ASPIRE, Child Culture Centre (CCC), Oreedoo, Qatar National Cancer Society, Qatar Orphan Foundation- Dhreima, Qatar Olympic Committee QOC, Qatar University, Quri, Qatar Brazil 2014, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), ADL, Qatar Bikes, Slim N Lite, and Qatar Football Association.
Fueling the passion for community celebration and active lifestyle will be the Wheels ‘n’ Heels Food Zone which will provide a selection of tasty, healthy snacks and drinks throughout the day.
