ROTA Reveals Ramadan 2012 Project
- Groceries Distribution, Community Iftars, Home Renovations scheduled
- First ROTA Fundraising Iftar set for 8th August
- Garangao celebrations with Hamad Children’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Centre & Leukemia Centre
Qatar’s leading non-profit education and community development organisation Reach Out To Asia (“ROTA”) has launched its Ramadan 2012 Project backed by the sponsorship of oil and gas producer Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (“Oxy Qatar”) and the support of volunteers and community partners.
With the Holy Month fast approaching, ROTA Volunteers have already been busy packing bulk groceries on 7th July before distributing supplies of rice, oil, milk, flour and other basic food items to families in need between the 9th and 11th of July.
Supported by its corporate partners, ROTA volunteers will be renovating the homes of two families in need from the 22nd to the 26th of July and the 29th July to the 2nd August. Both family homes will benefit from a house ‘makeover’ including home maintenance, repainting and new furniture.
Welcoming news of the campaign, ROTA Executive Director Mr. Essa Al Mannai said: “The Holy month of Ramadan is a blessing for the whole of mankind. Ramadan reminds people to think about poverty and hardship and reflect on how we can share resources with those people less fortunate than us. Together with our volunteers and partners, ROTA will once again make a difference to disadvantaged communities in Qatar during Ramadan.”
ROTA will be hosting three Community Iftar events during Ramadan with community-based institutions who work with children with special needs, elderly citizens and other vulnerable communities.
“At this very special time of year, Oxy Qatar is honoured to be associated with the ROTA 2012 Ramadan Project. We proudly support ROTA’s wide range of community activities, which aim to improve the lives of the less fortunate,” said Oxy Qatar President and General Manager Mr. Steve Kelly.
In a new Ramadan initiative for 2012, the ROTA Volunteer Program is also hosting a Fundraising Iftar event in Qatar Foundation on 8th August. ROTA will welcome senior management from its various partner organisations to the corporate fundraising event which will include a ROTA photo exhibition where framed pictures of ROTA activities will be auctioned to raise funds for a ROTA funded Non-Formal Education Project in Bangladesh.
Finally, ROTA volunteers will be celebrating the joy of Garangao - a festival marked uniquely by children in the Gulf countries – with children at the Hamad Hospital Leukemia Centre on 31st July and with the Hamad Children’s Rehabilitation Centre on 2nd August.
Now a traditional event in its annual Community Development calendar, ROTA introduced its first Ramadan Project back in 2008 and has so far helped many hundreds of families and individuals during the Holy Month.
“Our Ramadan 2012 Project is a true manifestation of ROTA's social responsibilities and willingness to strengthen the bonds between different elements in society and particularly with disadvantaged families and those with special needs,” adds Essa Al Mannai.
