Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club UK Donates Race Proceeds at Goodwood Festival to Educate A Child

Calendar icon
Educate A Child (EAC) has received a donation of 40,000 GBP from the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club.

The donation comes from the proceeds of one of the races held during the five-day Qatar Goodwood Festival in the UK to support EAC’s projects providing access to primary education around the world. ‘Educate A Child Stakes’ is the name of the race dedicated to EAC. Mr. Rashid al Dehaimi, Representative of the Qatari Embassy in London, attended the event and received the donation cheque on behalf of Education Above All.

Commenting on the donation, Marcio Barbosa, CEO, Education Above All Foundation, said: “EAA’s Educate A Child programme has a target of reaching 10 million out of school children by the end of the next school year. We have already reached over five million children. What we need to reach our goal are funds from individual donors and organisations such as the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, to which EAA is very grateful for its generous donation today. As well as the donation of its proceeds, the race will also serve to raise awareness of the work of Educate A Child to the wider public.”

Education Above All has received donations this year from various government development, sport and corporate organisations, including the Men’s Handball World Championship, the Korean International Cooperation Agency, the French Development Agency, the Qatar Equestrian and Racing Club, Qatar Insurance Company, the W Doha Hotel & Residences, and Ali Bin Naser Al Misnad Transport & Trading among others.

Later this year, the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will come to an end, including MDG2, achieving universal primary education. Despite the goal there remain 58 million out of school children worldwide. EAA is working to raise awareness and funds to complete the unfinished agenda of primary education to ensure those hard to reach children who remain out of school are not forgotten.
