A long-awaited industry boom for Gaza!
The construction industry in Gaza is experiencing a spirit-lifting boost, according to a report released by UNWRA, and international press.
Â
The Israeli army have previously been concerned that building materials may be used for aggressive means such as rockets, weapons stores or bunkers, despite easing the regulations of the blockaded area in 2010.
Â
However, for UN-related projects, construction materials are permitted. This means that the beginnings of construction projects are now appearing all over Gaza, with our ‘Extreme University Makeover’ project attributing to 8 of those sites!
Â
We had felt trepidation during the planning stages of our reconstruction projects, but these initial reports give us some much-needed confidence in our projects!
Â
This marked availability of building materials means that the cost of them is almost halved, aiding significant part of the struggling economy of the blockaded area.
Â
The vast requirement for building work also means that the market is one with a huge level of demand!
Â
Poverty is still a serious problem in the region, but with the UN orchestrating all kinds of projects in the blockaded area, the industry will be able to thrive, and new buildings will create new jobs.
Â
Exports will remain difficult to generate wealth from, with the border controls exiting Gaza still restricted, but at least we can celebrate the slight easing of the import process.
