Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

The Importance of Multilateralism in a Time of Unprecedented Challenge

On 16th December 2018 SDG Advocate Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Founder and Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation met with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UNICEF Executive Director, Henrietta Fore and discussed Sustainable development Goals progress and ongoing education efforts. Her Highness then attended the insightful lecture here in Doha by the UN Secretary General.

Guterres discussed the importance of the United Nations as a peace bridge, an honest broker between countries and an organisation to meet the world’s SDG goals. For EAA, we continue to work tirelessly with our many partners, including UN organisations, to break down barriers to education, believe that education, SDG4, is a vehicle for reaching many other SDG goals.

Guterres said at the lecture, “Young people have an absolutely crucial role, more than ever, in the evolution of our society, because technology is evolving in such a way that my granddaughters understand it much better than me. The contribution of young people to the drafting of policies and solutions to problems is absolutely essential.”

Speaking on the side lines of the event, Guterres said, “I’m a great admirer of Qatar Foundation and its fantastic actions in Qatar and across the world. It has been an enormous pleasure to visit. Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser has been an important partner of the United Nations — when I was United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, she was extremely instrumental in providing education to hundreds of thousands of refugees living in extremely dramatic circumstances. I want to pay tribute to all those who work at Qatar Foundation for their contributions for the well-being of so many people in different parts of the world.”
