Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

EAA and The Closet Sign Agreement to Support Education for Out-of-School Children

EAA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Closet, the luxury fashion boutique based in Doha. Under the terms of the agreement, The Closet will support EAA’s Educate A Child (EAC) programme, generating visibility for EAC on the issue of universal primary education.

Commenting on the agreement, Marcio Barbosa, CEO of EAA, said: ‘We are pleased to add The Closet to our growing list of supporters in Qatar. EAA aims to provide access to quality education to 10 million out of school children by 2016 and the support of private sector partners is critical to our efforts to raise funds for and awareness about this important issue. Our agreement with The Closet will help EAC reach a new audience: consumers of high-end fashion’.

As EAA’s newest ally, The Closet will help connect EAC with potential partners and advocates in the fashion industry, promote the programme on social media, and collaborate with EAC on local events to help publicise the issue of out of school children.

‘We’re thrilled to join forces with EAA to support and promote the work of the Educate A Child programme’, said Mr. Ahmed Ali Al Mohannadi, Co-Owner and GM for The Closet. ‘Every child deserves to receive a basic education. We’re happy to do what we can to raise awareness of the issue of out of school children to our customers and to the wider Doha community’.

This year, Education Above All has signed agreements with, and received funding from, various local and international organisations, including the Men’s Handball World Championship, the Qatar Equestrian and Racing Club, Qatar Insurance Company, the W Hotel, the Korean International Cooperation Agency, the French Development Agency and Ali Bin Naser Al Misnad Transport & Trading, among others.

At the end of 2015, the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will come to an end, including MDG2, (guaranteeing universal primary education). There remain 58 million out of school children worldwide, and this is a critical time to ensure those hard to reach children who remain out of school are not forgotten, particularly in the new phase of the Sustainable Development Goals, 2016-2030). EAA supports a final push by the global community, both financial and political, to ensure the completion of the unfinished goal of primary education for all, as soon as possible.
