Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Educate A Child (EAC) was invited by the President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to address the organisation’s annual meeting.

Dr. Mary Joy Pigozzi, Executive Director of EAC spoke about the partnership between US Fund for UNICEF and Educate A Child, specifically the Equitable Access to Education for Out of School Children Affected by the Crisis in Syria project, which provided access to quality primary education for out of school children affected by the conflict in Syria.

EAC participated in a two-person panel that focused on education in emergencies. Dr. Pigozzi spoke about how the partnership has benefited large numbers of Syrian out of school children (OOSC) in the country and the region. In addition, she detailed how EAC works in a wide range of countries where children face many barriers to education – from poverty to cultural issues – and forms partnerships with global and local organisations to overcome these barriers. It should be noted that in terms of financial support, the U.S. Fund exceeded its co-funding target by more than US$2 million. This helped EAC and the U.S. Fund surpass their initial enrolment target and reach more children through the partnership.

The meeting brought together more than 375 U.S. Fund board members, supporters and donors—individuals, corporations, foundations and non-governmental partners from across the United States.
