Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Raising the Bar: Promising Practices for Refugee Education from UNHCR and Educate A Child

Calendar icon
This EAC/UNHCR publication highlights critical lessons learned, best practices and solutions from the field gleaned from years of successful collaboration in diverse contexts pertaining to refugee education that span various regions around the globe.

Since 2012, Educate A Child, a global programme of the Education Above All Foundation, and UNHCR have been working together to enhance access to quality primary education for displaced children throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East. As of December 2019, this partnership has resulted in the enrolment of more than 1.2 million out of school children (OOSC) across 12 countries. This publication captures some of the most important lessons learned, best practices, solutions from the field via EAC/UNHCR collaboration, and may portend possible ways forward with respect to refugee education. Still, in spite of the apparent success, there remains important work to do on this front and marginalised children with rights to education yet to be realised.
