Rana Abu Shlaih is 25 years old and is one of the beneficiaries of the Youth Empowerment Project funded by Al Fakhoora & Islamic Development Bank. She has completed 24 hours of training in which she was introduced to setting up her own business. Later on, she received 120 hours of intensive vocational training in sewing and embroidery along with a grant to start her own business.

Coupled with a practical background and her husband's assistance, Rana has managed to pave her way to success steadily but surely shortly after receiving the grant.

Together they worked diligently to make their business flourish. They began theirs in a small apartment owned by her brother-in-law, with a monthly income not exceeding $200.

“Our small business has become well known and more and more famous in the area, our customer numbers have risen and diversified.” Rana explains.

Rana now earns triple the monthly income she used to earn with a larger base of customers. Months ago, she moved to new store and now she thinks of moving to an even larger place to meet customers' demand with solid determination to pursue her dream.

''Every person who has a dream to achieve will find their dream comes true by persistence and a great deal of patience, nothing comes that easy especially in our circumstances.'' Rana adds, “I hope all donors will engage such empowering projects in their agenda to help the youth shape their future on their own''.

''I should add something; this business not only secures a decent income for us, but also opens new gateways for us that let us not only survive but compete in this trade, especially because we cover every customer’s need; sewing, embroidery as well as new designs for fashionable Abbayas.”  Rana’s husband commented.

Rana has reached an even wider spectrum of customers through social media sites such as Facebook and by networking with local NGOs.
