A Stable Platform to Reach Success
Esraa Yaseen is 22 years old, lives in Gaza and studies computer engineering at the Islamic University in Gaza, with remarkable academic performance and leadership skills.
Esraa was one of the first students to be awarded the Dynamic Futures Al Fakhoora Scholarship due to her high performance in secondary school. At the time, Esraa had a challenging and difficult economic living situation with her family, to the point that she didn’t even bother dreaming about being able to finish university, her father barely managed to pay her first semester fees which Esraa reflected on “I felt so comfortable in the first semester, and achieved 80% in my cumulative mark, which was so frustrating, because I knew it could end. I have always been ambitious and dedicated to being a leading student. For a moment, I thought I would have to stay home and postpone my studies. At that exact moment, I was awarded the Al Fakhoora scholarship. It was like a gift from Allah. The Semester I got the scholarship, I managed an outstanding 91% in my overall cumulative mark.”
With remarkable progress in her studies, Esraa's current cumulative mark stands at 83% which is excellent for engineering students. Esraa added “In fact, Al Fakhoora contributed to my success, because it gave me psychological comfort to move forward without any fears about having to stop studying or take time off.”
“Having this stability and peace helped me not to worry about fees, so I could think more about my studies as well as my community. How to be a productive, active and influential person.” Esraa continued.
Esraa has been very active since joining Al Fakhoora; selected as a Technical Assistant to co-lead Al Fakhoora’s Local Advocacy projects. Recently Esraa joined an English language class as part of Al Fakhoora’s Capacity Building program, on this she said “This is a very important skill, this empowers my ability to study, to look at different websites for my research. Besides, I am very ambitious to pursue higher studies, to go outside Gaza. In fact, my dream is to study Leadership – which is what inspired my work with Al Fakhoora’s Advocacy Activities – you know our community is conservative, thus having Al Fakhoora as a well-known organisation to engage with, made my family encourage me to join the activities without fears. Now I know so much more about the value of a strong character and to leading for success.”
