ROTA Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day on 10th February

Every family in Qatar is being encouraged to live a healthier lifestyle when Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) hosts its Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day at the Museum of Islamic Art park on Friday 10th February.

Every family in Qatar is being encouraged to live a healthier lifestyle when Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) hosts its Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day at the Museum of Islamic Art park on Friday 10th February, under the auspices of ROTA Chairperson, H.E Sheikha Al Mayassah bint Hamad Al Thani.

Now in its fifth year, Wheels ‘n’ Heels is Qatar’s largest community event and promises 8 hours of fun for people of all ages with opportunities to participate in sports activities and learn more about living a healthy lifestyle while supporting ROTA’s education and humanitarian work.

This year’s Wheels ‘n’ Heels festival is proud to host a number of special events to promote ROTA’s collaboration with the Qatar Japan Committee 2012. Celebrating 40 years of cordial relations between the two countries, a group of 40 Japanese students are travelling to Doha especially to participate in the event.

Japanese performances at Wheels ‘n’ Heels include traditional Soran Dance and a calligraphy demonstration using Japanese brushes. The Wheels ‘n’ Heels Big Screen will show an inspirational video documentary telling the story of how last year’s devastating tsunami affected the student’s school and the courage they showed to recover from the destruction.

Under the event theme ‘Reach Out By Having Fun!’, a full programme of exciting activities include the traditional Wheels ‘n’ Heels Circuit. Family members of all ages will pull on their trainers to jog, walk, cycle or wheelchair the 3-kilometre Circuit to raise money for ROTA projects across Asia.

Kidz Zone promises hours of fun for younger members of the family with non-stop live entertainment, interactive arts space, bouncy castles, skills based competitions face painting and a whole load of fun games.

Nine-year-old Ghanem Al-Muftah, Qatar’s beacon of hope for physically-challenged children, Arab sporting icon Nada Zeidan, International Olympic Committee member and three-time Olympian Rania Alwani from Egypt, the top Qatar Stars League players will be among the star attractions, plus a host of one of the most popular Arab Idol Program artists the Bahraini singer Hala Al Turek who will be performing on Wheels‘n’ Heels stage. Also the singer Diana Karazoun and the Emirati Singer Fayez Al Said will be joining the stage to perform their popular songs.

Wheels’ n’Heels stage this year will notice the main launch of Doha 2020 Olympic Bid logo and slogan announcement.

“We were delighted and humbled when last year the Qatar Olympic Committee named this ‘Social Event of the Year’ for encouraging social responsibility through sport. And this year, we are honored to be chosen as a platform for the unveiling of the Doha 2020 Olympics bid logo and slogan. This is an exciting new development not only for Qatar and the region, but also because we believe in the same things as our partners at Doha 2020. We both want to engage and inspire youth through sport. And we both see sport as an opportunity to build bridges of hope, understanding and friendship”.

Visitors to the Health & Safety Zone can obtain advice about how to get fit, stay healthy and learn more about first aid. Also taking part will be Civil Defense staff teaching visitors the importance of safety regulations and how to use a fire extinguisher.

Everyone visiting the ROTA Zone will discover all they need to know about Qatar’s leading education and humanitarian NGO. A merchandise stand selling ROTA t-shirts and a whole lot more, plus an information point displaying details of all ROTA’s programs and advice about how to join the 800+ volunteers in the ROTA Volunteer Program.

Wheels ‘n’ Heels participants looking to improve their personal fitness will be keen to check out the Active Zone where the Qatar Cycling Federation and Aspire promise lots of fun sports and fitness activities for the entire family.

ROTA Brand Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdalla Al Thani, the only Qatari ever to climb the highest mountains in Africa, Europe, Asia and South America, will be on hand to inspire Wheels ‘n’ Heels participants to tackle their own life changing challenges.

After all the exercise and excitement, relax in the Food Zone with a selection of healthy snacks and watch all the Wheels ‘n’ Heels action on the Big Screen. Also one of the popular names in the cooking industry Diana Falk will participate through providing live cooking show to the audience.

Wheels ‘n’ Heels Strategic Partner the Qatar Cycling Federation and many leading organizations are participating including Qatar Stars League, Porsche, Aspire, Qatar Olympic Committee, Qatar Diabetes Association, Child Cultural Centre and Civil Defence.

Looking forward to Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2012, Al Mannai said: “Since its launch in 2006, the Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day has gone from strength to strength. On a day when the fun never stops, we hope to see as many families as possible take part in a fantastic event that also shows support for ROTA by helping to raise funds for our education projects across Asia, I would like to thank Qatar Olympic Committee, and Q-Tel for supporting ROTA’s fundraising efforts during Wheels’n’Heels this year.
