ROTA Extends Educational Aid Program Into Cambodia
Student and teacher volunteer teams from eight schools attended an orientation program on Saturday in preparation for a week long humanitarian aid trip to Indonesia.
The field trip team, lead by Qatar-based charity organization Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), will include 141 people who will visit the site of a school currently under construction near to Jogjakarta on the island of Java. The village school building was destroyed during the 2006 earthquake, and a new 960-student facility being built by ROTA is scheduled for completion in two months. Volunteers will help in the final preparations.
The students, from Pakistan Education Centre, Al Wakrah Independent School, Qatar International School, Gulf English School, Qatar Academy, Park House English School, Al Khor International School and Doha Independent Secondary School for Boys, were given a full briefing on cultural, travel, health and safety, and wellbeing issues.
The program was also an opportunity for the eight school teams to get to know each other in advance of their 13th April departure.
ROTA operates under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation and has a mission to help promote quality educational opportunities for children throughout Asia.
