ROTA Emergency Relief reaches Gaza
- Blankets, medicines and food supplies distributed to the people of Gaza
Qatar-based NGO Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) is delivering urgently humanitarian aid to the devastated Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
ROTA representatives arrived on the 2nd of January in Egypt to oversee the delivery of emergency relief items to be distributed to the people of Gaza. In cooperation with the Islamic Relief Organization, ROTA managed to distribute blankets, food supplies and medicines before the beginning of the ground operation.
Eight days of uninterrupted air strikes has killed hundreds, injured thousands and left the people of Gaza in despair. The ground operations that followed deteriorated the humanitarian crisis in the area, with the Palestinians suffering injuries, hunger, cold and fear. So far, 80% of the population cannot support themselves and are dependant on humanitarian assistance; unfortunately this figure is increasing.
According to the UN World Food Programme, USD 9 million are needed in the form of emergency funds, in order to meet the food needs in Gaza Strip. ROTA representatives remain at the Rafa border, putting all possible efforts into distributing the much needed food supplies and medical equipment in the Gaza strip, based upon the opening of the border.
Naseer Iqbal, ROTA Programs Coordinator, who travelled to Egypt, said: "The situation in Gaza is worsening day by day, and the Palestinians need our support now more than ever. There has been a dramatic deterioration in living conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip and ROTA's emergency relief will be helping thousands of unfortunate Palestinian families that are suffering due to the on going conflict."
Reach Out To Asia announced last week the donation of USD 1 million in humanitarian aid, consisting of food and medical supplies, showing its solidarity to the Palestinian people, currently reeling under heavy hostility.
