Reach Out To Asia to host first-ever Global Youth Consultation
- Bringing Together Youth From Around The World For Action And Involvement In Humanitarian Issues
Doha, Qatar, 14 July, 2015: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is set to host the first ever Global Youth Consultation for the United Nation’s World Humanitarian Summit (WHS). Taking place in Doha from 1st to 2nd September 2015, the Consultation will bring together over 100 youth from around the world between the ages of 18 and 30, including 50 young men and women from Qatar.
As a member of QF, ROTA believes in the importance of unlocking human potential as well as the development and power of human capacitiesin-line with the Human and Social Development Pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.Sharing the view that youth must be recognised as critical actors in rethinking the global humanitarian architecture, ROTA, as the event host, is using its expertise, knowledge and resources to ensure that youth are given this opportunity on the global stage.
Essa Al Mannai, ROTA’s Executive Director, said: “ROTA believes that young people worldwide must be recognised as critical players in rethinking the global humanitarian architecture. We are proud that ROTA, representing Qatar, is hosting the first-ever Global Youth Consultation for the World Humanitarian Summit where promising young people are reshaping the world with their dreams and ambitions.”
Al Mannai added: “The Consultation will address humanitarian needs in our fast-changing world from their perspective. Through the event, ROTA aims to galvanise agreements on key priorities for adolescents and youth, share innovative youth-led initiatives and partnerships, provide a platform for the next generation to be heard, and ultimately inspire greater action and involvement of young people in humanitarian issues.”
The Global Youth Consultation will provide an excellent opportunity for 50 young men and women from Qatar to make their voices and opinions heard. They were selected under strict criteria and were interviewed by ROTA’s Youth Advisory Board. Members of the ROTA’s Youth Advisory Board have been rigorously trained to interview delegates and empower their peers in order to take the event to new heights.
The World Humanitarian Summit was initiated by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to improve global disaster preparedness and response. The WHS Global Youth Consultation aims to shape the global youth position by gathering input from youth on humanitarian challenges and solutions. The Consultation will allow the views of youth to be incorporated into the UN Secretary-General’s report and the overall recommendations for the World Humanitarian Summit, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2016.
