Reach Out To Asia Campaign Aims to Provide Vital Help to Those in Need

Qtel today made a QR 1 Million donation to Reach Out To Asia to assist in providing much needed and valuable aid to the people of Pakistan at a time of great need and crisis.

Nearly 20 million people have been affected by disastrous flooding that took place in August this year. Entire rural communities have been wiped out, and more than 1,600 people have been confirmed dead from the disaster.

Qtel's donation aims to support Reach Out To Asia's efforts to respond to the situation by providing essential education supplies to targeted schools affected by the floods, as well as long term education interventions including the rehabilitation and reconstruction of schools, strengthening school management boards, and teacher training.

Reach Out To Asia has a strong track record of providing support in Pakistan, which started immediately after the 2005 Earthquake and continues until today. ROTA's work encompasses the reconstruction of 17 schools and teacher training in earthquake-affected areas; provision of education opportunities to children of internally displaced people during the period of conflict in the Swat Valley area, and sports programs training youth in pertinent life skills.

Qtel provided the donation under its "Hand in Hand" campaign, which aims to provide support for those in need both within Qatar and internationally.

To support the Pakistan relief efforts, Qtel has also placed a large donation box in the car park at their West Bay headquarters for clothing donations. The donated clothes are being shipped to Pakistan as part of a special relief flight from Qatar.
