Professional Training Program for Fakhoora Graduates
Mohammed Daloul, 24, lives in the Zaitoun Suburb in Gaza city, and recently graduated from Palestine University with a commerce degree major in accounting and a minor in English language.
Mohammed has been an Al Fakhoora scholar for four years and recently stated “I graduated with the hope of getting a decent job, to have an income to help my family. I do not like staying at home, yet the market in Gaza is very competitive and unemployment is very high.”
In such a challenging environment, Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures deigned a ‘Graduates Professional Training Program’ to develop job hunting skills and the ability to compete within the market. How to perform in a job interview and best develop your resume, were just some of the skills taught.
Mohammed joined the program after his graduation and in his words described the program as “A career advisory course, some things that are missed in university. The program crystallised our administrative and personal skills in order to succeed in our efforts in finding a job. What was very interesting, is that one of the courses was on how to start up your own projects, our own businesses and how to be self-employed. These were very important ideas and skills to think beyond getting a regular job which may require waiting a long time.”
The program is 45 days long with 150 hours of attendance and began in November 2013, and concluded before the year’s end in December.
Mohammed reflected on how important it was to receive training on resume writing, with reference to this, he points out “I had a rough idea about how to write a resume, but we had professional training, most importantly, we learned how to write cover letters and how to write references. These are things I never knew before, additionally we covered how to fill out a job application, how to state the required information and adding on notes for clarifications.”
