Open For Education
Hana’ Al Astal, a 36 year old resident of Khan Yonis, is pursuing a Diploma in Social Services at Al-Quds Open University (QOU) – Khan Younis branch that was recently established through a partnership of Qatar Red Crescent (QRC), Al Fakhoora and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
Hana commented on the new building, “I am impressed by the facilities of the new branch; the place is more comfortable than the previous one. Today as a female studying at QOU I feel happy to have more privacy due to bigger spaces.”
Hana’ added, “Having the opportunity to do many activities and community services in the new branch is very exciting. Last week, I volunteered to clean the outside garden with my colleagues; it was very encouraging to do voluntary work in the new campus.”
“In the old buildings, we faced difficulties with limited space, which meant we had to have our exams outdoors, and sometimes in the rain. The new branch is giving us hope and a quality education, with access to computer labs and internet that allows me to do research, complete my course work, register for classes and manage student loans and grants.” Hana’ added.
