More than Just a Scholarship; More than Just a Student
Mahmoud Eid, 22, lives in Jabalia, in the North of the Gaza Strip with seven family members in one household.
Mahmoud graduated with a 95.8% from secondary school with a wish to study medicine. Based on his family’s income, it was difficult for him to attend medical school.
“In fact, my eldest sister is studying medicine too, she is my inspiration. But she was outstanding and graduated as the top student out of all secondary schools in Palestine, so she got the Presidential scholarship of which there is only one given annually! Alhamdulillah, I was able to attend the Islamic University in Gaza (IUG) and study medicine on an Al Fakhoora Scholarship, and in my fifth year now; this is more than a scholarship. The Al Fakhoora Scholarship is definitely different from my sister’s scholarship, I was able to join the Virtual Majlis with UK students, contributing as a blogger and was able to publish the book I have written entitled, “My Father” which I could not have done without Al Fakhoora.” Mahmoud said.
Currently Mahmoud is in the top five academically at his college with a cumulative 88.1% in his course. “In fact, this has not been easy to achieve, with the challenges of life in Gaza, particularly electricity, I am so glad to be where I am now.”
