Information Technology Capacity Building at the heart of the Dynamic Future's Work
As a part of the Dynamic Futures’ strategy of providing access to higher education and investing in human capital, Al Fakhoora and UNDP are working with the University College of Applied Science (UCAS) to enhance and develop the capacity of the information technology staff with the most needed skills and knowledge in the local market by providing them with a collection of advanced courses in information and communication technologies.
The Academic training have been planned to take place in Gaza and additionally for a few courses, outside of Gaza. The local training began in January 2013 and continued until May 2013. The external trainings were then planned to start in June 2013, but due to the limited access of movement, the selected academics were unable to make it out of Gaza to neither Jordan or Egypt.
UCAS in coordination with Fakhoora and UNDP arranged to replace these training with other highly needed courses that can be conducted in Gaza, and also with certifications that can be done online.
The courses were carried-out by a group of professional trainers with excellent training experience in different topics such as ‘Advanced Android Mobile Programming’ and ‘Advanced Software Design Patterns’.
Akmal El-Dahdooh, one of the trainees and an engineer by trade, stated that “These training programs gave me an excellent opportunity to learn and practice a new programming technology to develop mobile applications, my new skills have provided me with the ability to give my students practical learning in this new technology. It has also enabled me to enter the mobile applications development market.”
“This training program, which was carried out in partnership with Al Fakhoora and UNDP, provided the academic staff in the Information Technology department at UCAS with a good opportunity to improve their practical skills in new technologies and get them up to speed with the tremendous development the global information technology sector has seen over the last few years. It has covered an important part of the department’s strategic plan and the training has enhanced the capabilities and added new skills for the academic staff to pass on directly to their students and improve the quality of the education being provided.” stated Dr. Ahmed Abdalal, UCAS Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs
