EMPOWER 2016 Attracts a Large Number of Qatari Youth as Registration Deadline Nears
Doha, 24 January, 2016: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), continues to welcome applicants for its eighth annual EMPOWER Youth Conference. The event, which will be held from 17th – 19th of March 2016, is titled ‘Innovation in Youth Social Entrepreneurship’, and seeks to raise awareness about the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship amongst Qatar’s young population.
The Conference’s online application, which closes on 31st January 2016, whittles hundreds of applicants down to just 400 event attendees. Aligned with QF’s desire to continue to develop our most valuable resource, human capital, the event aims to unlock human potential by motivating young people to use their innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial talents.
“As in previous years, the EMPOWER event is attracting a large number of candidates from across the region, and the number of applicants is expected to dramatically increase as the registration deadline of 31st January draws near,” said Mohamed Saleh, National Programs Director at ROTA.
“After screening the applications, we will interview the candidates, and those who are accepted will be provided with further information and event participation guidelines as the second phase of the registration process concludes,” Saleh added.
The Conference will also serve as a discussion forum, where participants will be asked to devise and review solutions to increase the contribution of youth in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as the Qatar National Vision 2030, using the Youth Social Entrepreneurship’s business methodology.
Youth Social Entrepreneurship aims to address skill development, education, and investment in young people to motivate them to utilise their capabilities to achieve success and independence. While conventional entrepreneurship typically measures performance in terms of profit, social entrepreneurship takes into account positive returns for the community. As such, Youth Social Entrepreneurship integrates social, cultural, and environmental goals while generating profits, employment prospects, and opportunities for youth innovation.
Educating youth and raising their awareness about social entrepreneurship is an essential element of ROTA’s strategies to bolster youth employment in Qatar and the region.
In its 2015 edition, the EMPOWER event welcomed 450 participants out of 1,100 applicants from 23 countries across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
