Al Fakhoora Condemns Bombings
The 18th day of attacks on Gaza has left more than 800 people dead including protesters in the West Bank. The previous week has seen even schools that were being used as shelters by refugees being bombed.
This is Yousef Al Shinbary, 13 years old. He survived Thursday after the bombing of the UNRWA school in Beit Hanoun, he and his family had been staying there after being told to evacuate their house in northern Gaza two weeks earlier. Yousef is showing a picture of his dead brother, not only his brother, but his mother, two brothers, sister and aunt were all killed in the UNRWA school. They thought that UNRWA schools would be the safest place, but now we know that nowhere is safe and everywhere is a target.
Al Fakhoora director Farooq Burney said: “We are closely following the developments taking place in Gaza and are saddened by the deaths resulting from senseless attacks on United Nations facilities. We are in touch with our partners and students in Gaza constantly throughout this time. Al Fakhoora strongly condemns the reckless targeting of schools. Often the innocent civilians in Gaza are told to evacuate several times. The borders are sealed shut and the internally displaced is over 100,000 people, many seek refuge in UN schools, with up to 200 people in a classroom and no facilities to support those staying there."
