ROTA, Education City students and staff complete community projects

85 Education City students and faculty participated in this year's Make a Difference Day (MADD) on Saturday 5th February to accomplish a number of community improvement projects in Doha and Al Khor.

Organized by ROTA in partnership with Education City Campus Life, volunteer activities included visits to the Qatar Foundation for Elderly People Care and the Qatar Animal Welfare Society (QAWS).

ROTA Director Essa Al Mannai was delighted with the success of MADD. "A big thank you to everyone who took part and ensured that Make a Difference Day 2011 really did make a difference. It's people who bring about change in the world and helping even for just one day can make a big impact."

Other Make a Difference Day activities saw volunteers clean up and paint the Sri Lankan Stafford International School and clean areas of the Al-Khor Municipality.

Internationally, Make A Difference Day has been the world's biggest day of the year for doing good for nearly two decades and has called millions to action to improve thousands of communities around the world. In Qatar, Make A Difference Day fosters a commitment to service and volunteerism for students and faculty members of Education City to serve their communities.

"Make A Difference Day is an important event for the students of Education City to come together and give back to the Qatar community. It is our hope that through these service projects and other opportunities throughout the year our students will develop a life-long passion for service," says Lindsay Coco, Education City Campus Life Coordinator.

As one of its guiding principles, ROTA believes strongly and bases its overarching goals on volunteerism. Investing in the strengths and knowledge of the various communities in Qatar, ROTA's Volunteer Program aims to instill the spirit of volunteerism and encourage individuals' involvement towards community development in and outside Qatar.
