ZOCS and EAA Foundation's Internet Free Education Resource Bank
Project Status
This project aimed to continue providing education for children in rural Zambia who were left behind during school closures caused by COVID-19. Targeting learners aged 8 to 14 enrolled in Community Schools in Western Province, the initiative responded to the exclusion of rural students from government-led radio and television programs, which many households could not access due to poverty. In partnership with the Ministry of General Education, the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) introduced 12 Internet Free Education Resource Bank (IFERB) projects in the districts of Nkeyema and Kaoma. The projects were carefully selected to match learners’ age groups and were integrated into the national curriculum by aligning with key subject areas and content. To reach students effectively, IFERB materials were printed and distributed through schools, while each school was also equipped with a radio containing IFERB content. Learners engaged with the projects both in print and through the radio teacher, who explained and simplified concepts, supporting volunteer teachers who often lacked formal training. Radios were also shared in village clusters, extending access to children with limited facilities.
