LAL and EAA Foundation's Internet Free Education Resource Bank (IFERB)
Project Status
Around a thousand refugee children in Lebanon, enrolled in non-formal education centres in Aakar, Tripoli, Beqaa, and Majd Al Anjar, benefited from a remote learning initiative during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
In a context of limited internet access and frequent electricity restrictions, many students lacked devices and connectivity, leading to high dropout rates. To address these challenges, Education Above All Foundation provided the Internet-Free Education Resource Bank (IFERB), giving teachers the tools to support students remotely and bypass the need for internet or devices.
The program relied primarily on mobile phones for communication between teachers and students. Workshops and meetings with teachers were conducted through video conferencing, ensuring continuity of learning despite the restrictions.
This initiative demonstrated how innovative, internet-free solutions can sustain education for vulnerable children in remote and resource-limited settings.
