Digital School Project in Zambia
Project Status
The Digital School Project will support the Ministry of Education in reaching over 3,500 out-of-school adolescents in Zambia, enabling them to access quality education. A government-led scalable model will be developed and piloted to support out of school adolescents (OOSAs) to complete their Grade 7 national exams and enable them to either re-enter the education system, academic stream, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), or to have the basic skills needed to function in life.
The project uses a technology-enabled model to prepare 13 to 18-year-old OOSAs for the national G7 examinations in an accelerated fashion (max. 18 months for 5 subjects and 2 special papers),. To maximise OOSA’s chances of success, entry into the DOL program requires mastery of foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills at Catch-Up (CU) Level 4. The contextualised version of the DOL program consists of three components: FLN Bootcamp, using the CU methodology to maximise the number of OOSA eligible for entry into the DOL component, + DOL + mock examinations.
The program is supported by the MoE, which has officially committed to enrolling the learners as “in-school” in its education data management system and will provide official certification to learners at different possible exit points.
