About EAA

Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Save the Children and Educate A Child have partnered in Côte d’Ivoire and Thailand/Myamar to help children affected by conflict to enrol and stay in school. In Ethiopia, the Save the Children and EAC partnership is working to reach the most marginalized children across five regions, three major cities, and two refugee camps with quality primary level education.

Save the Children (STC) is an international, non-governmental organization that promotes children's rights, provides relief, and helps support children in developing countries. It aspires to reach its mission by increasing primary enrolment rates, improving education quality in supported schools, protecting children in the learning environment, and developing and implementing early childhood programs. Initially established in the United Kingdom in 1919, the organization has been operating in Côte d’Ivoire since 1996. In 2011, the organization reached 446,000 children through a range of emergency response activities. With seven offices covering the large majority of Côte d’Ivoire, STC is one of the key humanitarian agencies operating in education. Its vision is that by the end of 2016, all children in STC target locations are able to complete a cycle of quality primary education in safe, participatory learning environments.

Save the Children works to ensure that every child receives a good quality education and gains the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the 21st century. Save the Children works in 120 countries to save children's lives; fight for their rights; and help them fulfil their potential.  As an international non-governmental organization that promotes children’s rights and provides relief for children in developing countries, Save the Children aims to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts. It also campaigns globally to address the causes of child poverty.

Save the Children supports education programs that are proven to promote learning in school and in the community. It works to influence global and national policy to improve children’s access to quality education, from pre-school care through to adulthood. Additionally, Save the Children, delivers education programs to reach children who are out of school.

EAC and Save the Children have partnered to provide quality basic education to out of school children affected by conflict in Côte d’Ivoire and Thailand/Myanmar, and those who are the most marginalized in Ethiopia.  In Côte d’Ivoire, the EAC and Save the Children partnership will provide 28,800 out of school children in areas with very limited access to education with educational opportunities through the Build A Future project.  Build A Future uses a community schools model and encourages communities to take responsibility for the education of their children.

Through the Save the Children’s ACCESS project, supported by EAC, over 84,000 out of school children in Thailand/Myamar have the opportunity to complete a full quality basic education.  ACCESS will increase the supply of and access to education, including: providing financial support to families to offset direct and opportunity costs in accessing education; providing pre- and in-service teacher training; supporting teacher employment through salary subsidies; providing learning materials and school supplies; and supporting school system managers and leaders.

The EAC and Save the Children partnership will reach an estimated 57,060 out of school children in five regions and three cities of Ethiopia through the Increasing Access to Education for Marginalized Children in Ethiopia project.  This project will increase access to quality primary education and improve teaching practices at schools where the project is implemented.
