In the heart of the Gaza Strip, in the city of Deir Al-Balah, Sarah Maher Al-Shamali is making a significant impact. A volunteer at Sharik Youth Forum and the coordinator of the Tamayoz program, Sarah is dedicated to fostering youth leadership. Her initiatives, including “We will remain here as long as the thyme and olives remain,” the “Phoenix of Palestine,” and efforts to distribute potable water to displacement camps, aim to build community resilience amidst the challenges of war.

Sarah’s journey began from a deep personal motivation to alleviate the suffering caused by the catastrophic conditions in Gaza. Her experiences have not only shaped her resilience but also her ability to lead in crises. Through her work, Sarah has seen firsthand the transformative power of volunteering—it not only inspires hope and brings self-satisfaction but also creates tangible positive impacts on the community, particularly the youth and displaced families.

Sarah believes deeply in the potential of young people to lead, innovate, and uplift their communities.

Her story is a testament to the indomitable spirit of Gaza's youth, who, against all odds, continue to drive change and offer hope. Sarah believes deeply in the potential of young people to lead, innovate, and uplift their communities. Through her actions, she demonstrates that investing in youth is not just about providing opportunities, but about empowering them to implement their ideas and lead societal transformation.

The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation recognizes and supports the crucial role of initiatives like those led by Sarah in the Gaza Strip. By focusing on educational and psychosocial support, EAA helps to ensure that the youth of Gaza have the tools they need to succeed and make their mark on the world, much like Sarah is doing.
