About EAA

Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

The International Day to Protect Education from AttackThe 5th Observance of the UN International Day to Protect Education from Attack will be convened as a High-Level Panel led by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation and UN SDG Advocate, on the 9th of September 2024 in Doha, at QNCC Auditorium 3.

The International Day to Protect Education from Attack was established through a resolution spearheaded by the State of Qatar and Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Supported by 62 countries, the resolution declared September 9th as the UN International Day to Protect Education from Attack, a day dedicated to acknowledging and addressing the global need to safeguard education in conflict zones and against other barriers.

According to the latest reports, attacks on education have increased by 20% compared to previous years. In 2022 and 2023 alone, over 10,000 students and educators were killed, injured, abducted, or harmed in such attacks, with explosive weapons used in one-third of these incidents. Palestine, Ukraine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Myanmar are among the most affected countries.

Currently, more than 72 million children worldwide are out of school due to conflict, with 53 percent of them being girls and 17 percent facing functional difficulties, while 21% have been forcibly displaced. The ongoing attacks on education disrupt learning and have severe short- and long-term consequences for individuals and societies.

In a world burdened with conflict and crisis, the need to safeguard education calls for action to #RiseUp to #UniteToProtect.

The human cost of war is immense, and this year we emphasize our collective responsibility to protect and rebuild education for future generations. Echoing the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Moza and the State of Qatar, who lead this crucial cause.

Throughout history, when we unite, we achieve great things, turning the impossible into reality. We stand at a pivotal moment, and the choice is ours to make.
