Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Enrolling OOSC in South Kivu and Katanga

Calendar icon
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, EAC is supporting the International Rescue Committee to implement the Enrolling Out of School Children in South Kivu and Katanga Project to ensure that 47,750 Congolese children who are currently out of school have access to quality formal and non-formal primary education.

To reach this goal, IRC is expanding its current education programs in South Kivu and Katanga provinces, leveraging existing project infrastructure, knowledge, and experience with the provincial education system to scale up efforts. IRC will enrol 33,750 girls and boys in primary school with scholarship support; enrol 14,000 out of school children (OOSC) in non-formal accelerated learning programs (ALP), which condenses the 6-year primary school curriculum into 3 years; and promote on-time enrolment, community support for education, and parent participation in education through mass media campaigns targeting 33,000 parents.

Through this project, the IRC addresses barriers to education and helps reduce the number of children missing out on their right to education by enroling more in school through scholarships, by supporting educational quality through community outreach programs, and by leveraging existing funding in the DRC.
