UNESCO - IIEP

To carry out its mission, IIEP is very grateful to rely on strong and long-standing partnerships with a core group of donor countries. Made on a voluntary basis, their generous contributions represent around one-third of the total budget each year and are considered as part of the regular budget of the Institute together with the UNESCO allocation, which represents 10% of the budget.
Three reasons to support IIEP:
1. Strategical positioning
IIEP’s is clearly positioned in its areas of expertise as a global public good provider. Capable, flexible, and service-oriented, IIEP is driven by achieving sustainable results for its partners and beneficiaries.
Influencing country-level practice
- 95% of Heads of Planning Units affirm that IIEP training programmes are effective in helping people perform their jobs better.
- 85% of them find that IIEP’s training is effective in improving organizational performance.
- 95% of stakeholders involved in IIEP’s say research is highly relevant. National partners appreciate how IIEP listens to them and prioritizes country ownership.
2. IEP research triggers change. Decision-makers and implementers of specific policy issues:
- become generally better aware of issues;
- have a stronger evidence base for decision;
- see the value added of applied research.
3. Delivering on development goals
The Sustainable Development Goals are at the heart of IIEP’s current programmes. Future programmes will prioritize:
- developing the resilience of education systems to conflicts and disasters, as well as increasing accountability to stakeholders and beneficiaries;
- gender equality as a central planning issue within broader equity-focused policies and programmes;
- policy and programme options that improve learning outcomes at all planning stages.
What it takes to sustain the quality of IIEP’s results:
- the expertise of its staff;
- its three-pronged approach to capacity development, synergizing training, technical assistance, and research;
- implementing programmes that prove value addition and relevance to country needs, in compliance with its mandate;
- focus on delivery.
To deliver sustainable results, IIEP needs a sufficient level of predictable and untied funding.
