Discussions about cooperation between Yemen and UNICEF in education sector and ways of enhancing it.

SANA'A, Aug.14 (Saba)- Education Minister Abdul-Razzaq al-Shwal and Education Director of UNICEF Office in Sana’a Mohammed Ben Bella on Thursday discussed cooperation between Yemen and UNICEF in education sector and ways of enhancing it.

The two sides touched upon the basic quality education program for children outside school funded by the Education Above All (EAA) program included in Qatari-based programme Educate A Child with a total cost of $US 20.2 million.

The program includes building 500 classrooms in areas witnessing lower levels of attending schools and capacity-building of parents and students' councils and teachers in 100 schools, as well as implementing awareness media campaigns to enroll children at schools.

The minister stressed the importance of integrating efforts to improve and develop the educational process, noting to the contribution of the development partners in providing education services for children out of schools and capacity-building of educational institutions.

Education Above All (EAA) is a global initiative founded in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the wife of former Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Over 57 million children are out of school, with little hope of lifting themselves out of the cycle of poverty. Educate A Child is a global initiative launched by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar, which aims to significantly reduce the numbers of out of school children (OOSC).
