Education in emergencies network of experts to discuss strategic priorities.

On 29 and 30 September 2014, the Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict programme (PEIC) jointly hosts the 2014 Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) Global Consultation Synthesis Event in Doha, Qatar in association with Reach Out to Asia (ROTA). The INEE network of members, to which PEIC belongs, includes practitioners working for NGOs, UN agencies, ministries of education and other government personnel who work to ensure the right to education for all, regardless of crisis or conflict.

The two-day event is a key opportunity for INEE members to engage in a network-wide process to jointly develop a vision for education in emergencies from 2015 and determine the next INEE Strategic Plan. The event will take place at the HBKU student center, Education City, where 100 guests are expected to participate, including representatives from the World Bank, UNICEF, UNESCO, the Universities of Florence and Amsterdam, World Vision International and Save the Children, among others.

Mark Richmond, Director of PEIC, said: “We are pleased to be jointly hosting the 2014 INEE Global Consultation Synthesis Event in Doha. We hope that through such events, the INEE network’s efforts will enhance visibility for education in emergencies, which is one of the main focuses of the PEIC programme, and lead to the creation of a strategic plan that incorporates national and regional priorities and objectives.

Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC), a programme of Education Above All (EAA), founded by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, works to promote and protect the right to education in areas affected by crisis, conflict and insecurity. PEIC is a policy, research, advocacy and capacity development programme and brings together practitioners and specialists in education, international law and child protection.

INEE is a network of more than 11,000 individual members living and working in over 170 countries. INEE members are practitioners working for national and international NGOs and UN agencies, ministry of education and other government personnel, donors, students, teachers, and researchers who voluntarily join in the work related to education in emergencies.
