Within the course of Empowerment and Skilling dimensions of Al Fakhoora Dynamic Futures, 30 Al Fakhoora students achieved, during September, two debate training courses that aimed at improving their skills in the art of debating in Arabic language.

The program, which is organized by Palestine University- Qatar Debates’ partner in the Gaza Strip, aims to promote debating in Arabic to the Gaza youth to be articulate young leaders who can stand up in negotiations, discussions and arguments, which is a substantial competency for advocacy and for the investment in, creation and development of future leaders.

As Al Fakhoora students showed a notable performance, Qatar Debates acknowledged Al Fakhoora Team as an independent team, to participate in the Third International Universities Arabic Debating Championship, to be held in Doha in April 2015.

Asma Masoud, 23, an Engineering graduate says: “Debate is truly an art. I had a significant one-week training, competing with other Al Fakhoora fellows and Palestine University students. We have learned how to build constructive and rational arguments and how to defend our views. What was even better learnt was adopting controversial and contrary positions that oppose one’s beliefs; this helps in understanding the rivals’ attitudes as we put ourselves in their shoes. In addition, the training has improved my personality and style of discussion.”

As for Ahmed Wadi, 22, Nursing student- he says: “Debating empowers us as youth leaders! During the course, it helped rivals in discussions to look at issues from different perspectives. And this really improves understanding, perceiving, and increasing from our knowledge in reaching solutions by questioning and contending based on intellectual reasoning.”

Professor Abd Al Kareem Al Madhoun, Trainer and Manager of Palestine University Debate Center, revealed and concluded that Al Fakhoora students are showing an outstanding skill in debates where, the current training, will cast a value-added touch to Al Fakhoora's Dynamic Futures endeavors to building civic-minded leaders for Palestine.
