Opening up a world of education

Children love to learn. If they are denied access to knowledge, we also deny them the opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All (EAA), today witnessed the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding between EAA and two Turkish development and humanitarian agencies.

Ankara, October 22 2014, Education Above All Foundation (EAA) signed agreements with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) relating to cooperation in the field of education such as in West Africa and Afghanistan and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) on collaboration in Primary Education Support for Syrian Refugees in the Republic of Turkey. Her Highness was joined at the signings by Numan Kurtulmus, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

The agreements followed Her Highness’s visit to two camps in southern Turkey yesterday housing over 16,000 Syrian refugees. Her Highness met with children, parents and teachers in these camps and pledged her support through EAA’s Educate A Child programme to ensure quality education for the refugee children.

Education Above All, and specifically its Educate A Child programme, will now work with both Turkish agencies to jointly support education activities that serve to enrol and retain out-of-school children in quality basic education.

Her Highness has long supported education in conflict-affected areas through her initiatives.
