Calendar icon
Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All, today visited Syrian Refugee camps in Southern Turkey.

Gaziantep, October 21 2014, Her Highness visited two camps housing a total of over 16,000 Syrian refugees coming from the regions Aleppo, Homs, Hamma, Latakia and Idlib.

Her Highness sought to assess the educational facilities and conditions for the children and teachers in these camps. Her Highness pledged her support through her program Educate A Child, to ensure quality education for the refugee children. As a result of Her Highness’s visit, possibilities for collaboration were considered as well as an exchange of knowledge between Education Above All and a number of Turkish organizations that specialise in this field, such as the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

Her Highness visited a number of classrooms and community facilities where she spoke with teachers, parents and families about the difficulties they faced in their situations, which inhibit the provision of quality education for the children.

Her Highness was hosted by Mrs Emine Erdoğan, the First Lady of Turkey, Mrs Ayşenur İslam, the Turkish Minister of Family and Social Policy, and Mrs Fatma Şahin, the Mayor of Gaziantep.
